Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen says his theatrics that can at times be seen on the sidelines are because he wants to support those who are playing.
Petersen, 29, last featured for Chiefs in October in a 2-1 defeat to Golden Arrows and has since had to make due with watching from the sidelines.
However, he has been seen somewhat animated on the Chiefs bench, at times shouting instructions, with some fans saying he’s coaching from the bench.
“I think me as a person in general, on and off the field, if you ask anyone who knows me well, they will tell you I like to speak,” he told iDiski Times senior journalist Velile Mnyandu when asked about his “coaching”.
“When I speak I get very theatrical. I speak with my hands. Now I’m not, that’s because my hand is in my pocket.
“So it’s me, I always want to help, always want to encourage, that’s the main thing, no agenda, no nothing.
“It’s just being there, if I’m not playing, supporting, being there behind the guys, and just encouraging.”
Petersen, though, does feel that the support from the bench can help those on the pitch during the games.
“I think it’s important to know when you’re playing that you have the backing of everyone on the bench, people in the crowd, in the stands,” he added.
“I think certain times just show a bit more because sometimes when you get on the field, it can be a bit nerve-wracking.
“Knowing that you have the full support of everyone definitely gives you that boost of confidence and makes you want to play more.”
