Jose Riveiro has revealed in which aspect of Relebohile Mofokeng’s game he has seen the “biggest improvement” after the Orlando Pirates sensation assisted both goals in Buccaneers’ 2-0 victory over Cape Town.
Mofokeng assisted both of Tshegofatso Mabasa’s goal in the win at the DHL Stadium that saw third-placed Pirates move to 46 points on the DStv Premiership table.
When asked by iDiski Times about Mofokeng’s contribution, Riveiro said that while Mofokeng is young, he is showing his willingness to improve, and he is getting better all the time.
“I’m working with them every day and used to see them, I know what they are capable to do,” Riveiro replied to iDiski Times‘ question about Mofokeng.
“You have the chance to see them for one-and-a-half hours per week, sometimes a little bit more. But I’m not surprised like I said before it is difficult to make the 20 in Pirates, it is difficult to make the starting 11, very difficult and he’s performing in a way that he is getting all of our confidence to continue playing him.
“He’s just improving, he’s still very young, he needs to improve in a lot of things and he’s doing a great effort in the work that he’s putting also in the defensive phase because we used to see only what he does with the ball but even when he’s not on the ball, it is probably the biggest improvement in Rele.
“And little by little he is getting a better football player, more complete, more solid, more reliable and the talent was always there, that’s something that we cannot teach, he’s a talented player.
“But never forget that he’s also surrounded by good players that are helping him a lot and we as a team, I think whoever is playing right now, the team is playing the way we want and everybody’s trying to contribute in different ways and Rele has something different and is working so well. So happiness.”
Mofokeng is one of the strong contenders for this season’s Young Player of the Season award.
