Stellenbosch Football Club head coach Steve Barker has admitted that the preparations for CAF inter-club competition have already started but there’s still work to be done.
Stellies kept their chances of qualifying for the CAF inter-club competition for the first time in club’s history alive after beating Golden Arrows 3-0 on Wednesday.
The Cape Winelands-side regained second spot after Orlando Pirates had overtaken to move into second for a few hours following their 2-0 win at Cape Town City.
With four games to go, the Carling Knockout Cup champions stayed three points ahead of the Buccaneers and are leading the race to play CAF Champions League next season.
Barker stated that the preparations have started in terms of squad planning and some other things relating to Africa’s elite tournament, but he emphasised that the job is not yet done and they mustn’t get ahead of themselves.
“We are mindful of it but I think every game we get closer we have to start preparing both in terms of squad and also just how we’re gonna manage it,” he said when asked by iDiski Times whether the CAF preparations have started.
“So yeh, we are getting closer as we speak. Let’s hope we can achieve our target of finishing in the second position but still a bit of work to be done.
“We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves too early. We just have to continue, taking it one game at the time.
“But you can be rest assured that whatever happens and every eventuality we will be prepared for what the future holds.”
