The State in the Senzo Meyiwa trial will on Friday morning lead its final witness on the confession statements that have been admitted as evidence.
Last week, Judge Ratha Mokgatlheng ruled that the confessions signed by Bongani Ntanzi and Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya were made freely and voluntarily.
This week, the statements have been read in open court, with incriminating evidence being revealed.
The Pretoria High Court is hearing the trial of five men accused of the Bafana Bafana captain’s 2014 murder.
The State spent the week calling witnesses who are linked to the confession statements by Sibiya and Ntanzi.
These include the magistrate that Ntanzi signed his second confession before, Magistrate Vivian Cronje.
On Wednesday, State Advocate George Baloyi told the court they had one more witness to call, who will testify on the confessions.
“There is only one witness that the State intends to call before the end of term, whereafter we will then revert to the evidence of Lieutenant Colonel Mangena. The defence indicated that they would need time during the recess to consult their expert.”
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Mokgatlheng lambasted lawyer for the first accused Thulani Mngomezulu for failing to appear in court without excusing himself.
Advocate Baloyi told the court that Mngomezulu committed to attending Friday’s proceedings.
