Two fetuses were discovered discarded in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, and Terrance Park, KwaZulu-Natal, prompting police to investigate two different cases of abandonment (KZN).
Residents with CCTV cameras in the area are urged to review their footage and report any relevant information that could aid police investigations.
Here’s what we know so far:
On Saturday, a developing foetus was discovered in a black bag on Celsius Street, close to Zuid Street, in Middelburg.
The remains had been discarded in a nearby open field in a bag. Authorities are currently investigating the case as a pregnancy cover-up.
Post-mortem examinations will be carried out to identify the foetus’ developmental stage, race, and other medical findings.
The shocking discovery was made in the early hours of Saturday morning, but the authorities have not revealed any other details.
In a separate incident, a foetus was discovered this morning on Rambo Khoza Road in Phase 5, Terrance Park, KZN.
The remains were discovered by a scrap collector inside a plastic packet that had been dumped in a bush.
The resident who was then informed of the discovery, contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) at around 10:44.
Response officers came on the spot and met with Verulam SAPS officers who were already present. The umbilical cord had been severed, and there was no evidence of a placenta.
Police investigations are ongoing in both situations, and anyone who witnessed either occurrence is encouraged to come forward with any relevant information.
