Cape Town City have moved swiftly to secure their first signing for the 2024/25 season, luring Alifeyo Sibusiso Ziba from JDR Stars.
City have endured an inconsistent season as they enter a new era with head coach Eric Tinkler looking towards blooding in several young talents into the senior set-up.
Their defence has been identified as one of the areas that needed to improve, as veteran defender and captain Thami Mkhize has fulfilled a right centre-back role in their system for most of the season.
Ziba, 25, who is capable of featuring at centre-back and right back has now agreed terms with the club ahead of his move at the end of the season.
With Nathan Idumba Fasika likely to complete a permanent move to Valarenga after his loan spell in Norway, Ziba joins a defence currently featuring Keanu Cupido, Lorenz Gordinho, and Ramazani Tshimanga as natural centre-back options.
The towering defender missed only six out of a possible 54 games for JDR Stars in the league over the past two seasons, where they currently sit third in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Only five games remain in the league, where they are still in the promotion race along with AmaTuks and Magesi who are seven and nine points ahead respectively.
