The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will hold its first registration drive this weekend in preparation for next year’s general elections.
The IEC CEO, Sy Mamabolo has indicated that voter apathy among young people is linked to their dissatisfaction with the government. Nevertheless, he has urged them to register using the online platform.
Mamabolo stated, “That facility can be accessed 24/7, it’s very easy to use and you can use it at your convenience. So we want to once again, appeal to young people to take advantage, to encourage them to register, because when you’re registered, you have the opportunity to vote. But when you are not registered, even that otherwise available opportunity diminishes.”
