Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has praised Evidence Makgopa after he scored the winner in Saturday’s Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs.
Makgopa, 22, started his first derby and scored the only goal of the afternoon after being set up by Bandile Shandu in the 20th minute.
After the 1-0 win, Riveiro praised his striker, who had received some backlash from his own club’s fans in recent game.
“[He has] amazing numbers in each every game, but we look at him when he is scoring,” he told SuperSportTV.
“It’s normal, he’s a striker, but he has been doing an excellent job for the team so far.
“I’m so happy for him today because sometimes it’s not easy for our young boys to deal with all you have to deal with when you play for a big club.
“He’s getting experience and this goal is gonna help him a lot for the future.”
Makgopa has now scored three goals in 11 games for the Buccaneers this season.
