Change management educator Terry Oakley-Smith expresses her shock at Belinda Magor’s refusal to apologize publicly and pay the R150 000 fine, following her conviction for hate speech by the Human Rights Commission.
Magor had sent a racist voice note to a WhatsApp group, describing black men as monstrous rapists and suggesting that black women’s uteruses should be removed.
The Human Rights Commission is now intending to take Magor to the Equality Court.
Oakley-Smith describes the comments as heinous.
“I am completely horrified, but not surprised. Considering that Vicky Momberg was imprisoned for using the K-word, I believe this offense is equally heinous, as it targets black people, both men and women, with a particularly harmful suggestion for black women to have their uteruses removed. I hope this woman will face trial and be sentenced to imprisonment; community service would not suffice.”
