In court, AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s legal representative refuted allegations of a lack of consultation with the royal family regarding the succession plan.
The legal battle for the throne made its return to the High Court in Pretoria on Monday.
Prince Simakade Zulu, Misuzulu’s half-brother, has accused President Cyril Ramaphosa of inadequate family consultation, seeking to invalidate the president’s recognition of Misuzulu as AmaZulu king in October of the previous year.
Misuzulu’s attorney, Cedric Puckrin, told the court that the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, acting as the Traditional Zulu Prime Minister, had convened a meeting with members of the royal family to deliberate on the issue before the coronation.
Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi of KwaPhindange warmly welcomed all attendees in accordance with their status, expressing his pleasure in seeing the united presence of all royal family members.
Prince Mangosuthu introduced the newly nominated King of the Zulu nation, posthumously, to all members of the Royal family, Prince Misuzulu KaZwelethini Kabekuzulu.
He conveyed that the president and the Government were yet to finalize the coronation of the King to the throne.
Prince Mangosuthu then requested Prince Thulani to come forward and read the letter from Prince Simakade Zulu, also mentioning the nominated King as Prince Misuzulu Zulu.
