AmaZulu FC coach Brandon Truter has responded to rumours that former Kaizer Chiefs defender Sibusiso Mabiliso could re-join the KwaZulu-Natal side.
Mabiliso was released by Kaizer Chiefs last week after his contract was terminated by mutual consent. The former Usuthu defender moved to Naturena at the beginning of the 2021/22 campaign, but only made six appearances during his stay.
Truter, whose AmaZulu side started well into the new campaign, was asked whether he would be keen to bring Mabiliso back to Usuthu after his fine performances under Benni McCarthy in 2020/21 and admitted a deal could happen.
“He is a quality player and any coach would want a quality player at this moment,” Truter told the media.
“Right now we’ve got two very good two left-backs in Mxolisi Kunene and Riaan Hanamub as well. So adding Mabiliso, it brings quality but it also brings quality amongst the three.
“I think with a Championship-winning team, you can look at Sundowns and you can look at Europe as well, you have your squad of 14 [players] that is constantly plays and then there’s here and there changes. If you have that depth then you can, once there’s an injury to anybody, replace him.
“It always works for the squad and the depth. Yes, they are flexible both Kunene and Hanamub can play in a back-four or as wing-backs in a 3-4-3.
“So there’s definite flexibility for the left side, in midfield also we have some very good left footers, Tercious Malepe and Larry Bwalya, so you can never be short of left-footers.
“He [Mabiliso] is quality. If it happens, it happens.”
