South African defender Mlungisi Mkhwananzi, who recently returned from a stint in Finland, has finally found a new home ahead of the 2022/23 season. He signed for Baroka after weeks of training with the club.
The centre-back has been without a club since his contract with IIves Kissat expired at the end of last season. Despite having multiple offers from his club and from Sweden, the 23-year-old was in no rush to get a new club as he was weighing his options.
Two months ago, the Stars of Africa academy graduate exclusively told FARPost that he eyes a move to DStv Premiership or Motsepe Foundation Championship. His main reason for opting to stay at home was for better exposure and competitive football.
“My contract with IIves Kissat expired at the end of the season, the club has offered me a new contract, but I haven’t decided on that. If I get an offer from a DStv Premiership team, I will be happy to return home, I believe I deserve to play at a more competitive league,” Mkhwananzi told FARPost.
Bakgakga announced Mkhwananzi’s arrival on their Twitter page.

With these two acquisitions, it shows that Vincent Kobola’s team is still busy in the transfer market, reinforcing their squad ahead of the 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The team’s main goal of the season is to get promotion back to the DStv Premiership. They lost about 50% of their players when the team was relegated from the South African topflight.
Bakgakga open their season against KZN outfit Uthongathi at home on September 4th.
