Pitso Mosimane’s successor at Al Ahly, Ricardo Soares could reportedly be on his way out less than two months after taking over.
The Portuguese tactician was unveiled as new Al Ahly coach on 30 June after Mosimane had opted to depart from the ‘Club of the Century’ due to personal reasons.
However, Soares’ had a tough start to life in Cairo, with his club falling further behind in the Egyptian Premier League title race and also losing the 2021/22 Egyptian Cup final to bitter rivals Zamalek.
Despite a recent upturn in form, Al Ahly have identified another target to take over the reigns. According to le360Sport, the club made an offer to ex-Morocco head coach Vahid Halilhodžić.
The Bosnian coach was recently sacked as Morocco coach, despite leading the country to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He was in charge of the Atlas Lions for three years, winning 20 games – including a recent 2-1 come-back win over South Africa, drawing seven and losing just three.
However, his playing style had often been criticised and pressure mounted after Morocco was dumped out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations by Egypt in the quarter-final.
Al Ahly have offered Halilhodžić to take over from next season, but the 69-year-old is yet to respond.
