Two out of the three men who were recently arrested in relation to the Thabo Bester escape case were not allowed to be released on bail by the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The three individuals went to court for a decision on their bail application.

They are accused of assisting Thabo Bester, a well-known criminal convicted of rape and murder on Facebook, in his escape from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in May of last year.
Joel Makhetha and Moeketsi Ramolula were denied bail by Magistrate Estelle de Lange. She stated, “Accused number 11 and accused number 12, you will remain in custody until the 11th of July, bail is denied.”
On the other hand, Thabang Mier, who is listed as applicant number 10, was granted bail in the amount of R10 000.
However, he is required to adhere to certain conditions.
Magistrate Estelle de Lange explained, “Accused number 10, you are in custody; bail is set at an amount of R10 000 under the following conditions: upon payment of the bail money, you must report to the Kopanong Police Station on Wednesdays between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Additionally, you are prohibited from directly or indirectly contacting the state witnesses, leaving Bloemfontein without informing the investigators of this case, and failing to appear in court at 8:30 AM will result in a warrant of arrest, provisional cancellation of your bail, and forfeiture of your bail money to the state.”

With the granting of bail to Thabang Mier, a total of three individuals have now been given bail.
The main escapee, Thabo Bester, and his accomplice, Dr. Nandipha Magudumana, along with their co-accused, are scheduled to appear in court on 8 August after a postponement for further police investigations.
