Kaizer Chiefs caretaker coach Cavin Johnson believes that Mfundo Vilakazi still have a lot of potential to improve after showing flashes in his bench appearance against Richards Bay.
Vilakazi, 18, recently signed a first-team contract with Chiefs, which will expire in June 2028.
The teenage sensation was introduced in the last 24 minutes of the 1-0 defeat to Bay on Sunday and pushed the club for at least a point which they couldn’t get.
Johnson mentioned that Vilakazi must still settle in at Chiefs first team but it’s exciting to see that he’s a player who can make the fans happy.
“I think he did a lot; I think he made the fans happy but at the same time I did see him go forward which he was supposed to do, and he is capable of doing that,” Johnson told the media.
“We need to give him a little bit of more time to settle in on the field with Kaizer Chiefs, outside he is fine, but he needs to settle in the field for Kaizer Chiefs.
“I thought in a lot of moments you saw him he was happy; he might be sad now because we lost and it’s his first game but I’m sure he will come to the party a lot better as the season goes on and as he spends more time with Kaizer Chiefs first team.”
