Cape Town Spurs coach Ernst Middendorp says new signing Thato Mokeke is going to be important for the side, as they attempt to avoid automatic relegation from the DStv Premiership.
Mokeke, 33, made his debut for Spurs in the 1-0 loss to Sekhukhune United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
A result that saw them remain at the bottom of the log with 12 points from 24 matches. The midfielder signed for Spurs for the remainder of the campaign after mutually parting ways with Cape Town City in January, owing to a long term injury.
Though Spurs never made an official announcement about his arrival, he had been doing his rehab with the club. The midfielder started against Babina Noko and played over 45 minutes.
“He is a very qualified player, there is no doubt it,” said Middendorp.
“He didn’t play for five, six months now. We were planning for 30 minutes but good we kept him into the second half.
“He will definitely help us in the remaining games but for such a long time not on the field you have to be careful not to get a re-injury or another injury in this moment.
“We stretched it very much, it was very risky today.”
