AmaZulu midfielder Mondli Mbanjwa’s agent, Siboniso Ngubane has reacted to rumours that his player has attracted interest from Portugal.
Mbanjwa recently received his first national team call-up where Hugo Broos handed him his debut against Andorra in the FIFA Friendly series.
This is also his first season in the top flight and iDiski Times learned from its reliable sources about the Portuguese interest.
Ngubane revealed to the newspaper in edition 149 that he did reach out to his contacts in the European country to come have a look at Mbanjwa.
“You people have sources all over but to be honest I can’t say it’s true or it’s false.” Ngubane told iDiski Times.
“But as someone who represents a player, when a player gets a national team call-up you reach out to different people to come have a look at the player. That’s my job as a player representative and to market him.
“After he received a national team call-up I spoke to some people overseas to come have a look at him and see if there might be something they like in him.
“I mean every player has a dream to play for their national team and to play abroad. So for me it was important to get in touch with people overseas. Yes, I did reach out to people in Portugal to come have a look at him.”
Ngubane adds the Portuguese contingent did indeed have a look at the 25-year-old and he is now waiting to hear from them.
“Yes, and they have watched him so we are just waiting to hear what they have to say or how they want to move forward because the player is still contracted to AmaZulu,” he added.
“He has a long-term contract at that. So if there is interest I’ll take them directly to the club chairman and if he decides to continue they will make an offer to the chairman.
“But to be honest I want greener pastures overseas for the player. So yes I have been in contact with people in Portugal.”
