Suping revealed that the incident occurred on Tuesday.
Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, a police spokesperson, said the off-duty officer went to a house in Sandvlakte and allegedly fired six rounds, instantly killing a 30-year-old man and his wife, who is also a police officer stationed at the Kopfontein Port of Entry.
“Subsequent to the incident, the suspect handed himself to the police and the firearm that was allegedly used during the commission of the crime was confiscated. The motive for the crime is unknown and investigations are under way,” he said.
Lieutenant Sello Kwena, the provincial police commissioner, denounced the event and urged employees to use the Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) programme and specialists rather than resorting to violence.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, Mpumalanga Provincial spokesperson, told The Star that the members went to work as usual in the morning.
“Then, at around 7.50 am those around heard gunshots, only to find a 65-year-old colonel and a 53-year-old sergeant lying on the ground. It is suspected that the sergeant shot the colonel and turned the gun on himself,” said Mohlala.
He stated that they do not know the motive for the murder or suicide at this time.
“We are investigating the case; our members are on the scene. In the morning, there was no fight; it was just a normal day.
“It’s a matter of us investigating. We hope that our members, as soon as they are done with the scene, will clarify details as to how many times gunshots were fired and which part of the body,” said Mohlala.
According to sources close to the members, the two men had a fallout over the colonel’s refusal to allow the sergeant to attend courses on detached duty.
