The legal team of President Cyril Ramaphosa is weighing its options in order to challenge the findings of the independent panel’s Phala Phala report.
This comes after the Constitutional Court rejected Ramaphosa’s request for direct access to the apex court.

The independent panel established by Parliament found prima facie evidence that Ramaphosa violated his oath of office during and after the February 2020 heist at his Phala Phala estate in Limpopo.
According to Magwenya, the verdict is not a setback for the president.
“The judgment deals with procedural matter, with respect to the president seeking direct access to the Constitutional Court, it does not pronounce on the merits of the case. It says there is no case of the ConCourt to be petitioned directly.

“This is not a blow to the president. The legal team will convene and map a way forward and consider options going forward.
“Our view is that he was correct in doing so, because the matter concerned a report that was ceased with the conduct of the president and our view was that the Constitutional Court was the right court to hear the matter.”
