Record champions Al Ahly have lost their first CAF Champions League Group B clash against Al Hilal Omdurman on Saturday.
Florent Ibenge’s Sudanese side, who lost 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns last week upset the favourites at home thanks to a goal by Makabi Lilepo in the 53rd minute.
They even missed a penalty and the chance to make it 2-0, but managed to secure the three points.
Percy Tau started the game for Al Ahly and lasted until the 75th minute when he was replaced by Mohamed Magdy Afsha.
The loss must Al Ahly under pressure ahead of their double header with Sundowns, who already sit on six points in Group B.
Al Hilal follow in second place with three points from two games, while Al Ahly and Coton Sport sit on zero points after just one match.
Their opener had been postponed due to Al Ahly’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup. Marcel Koller’s side have now lost their last three successive matches, after defeats against Real Madrid and Flamengo at the Club World Cup.
Al Ahly will now host Sundowns in Cairo next week Saturday, when they desperately need to get points to not lose their grips on making it out of the group.
