AKA’s father has recently shared his thoughts on the tragic murder of his son, shedding light on his belief that the killing was a meticulously planned and well-funded assassination.
AKA, whose real name was Kiernan Forbes, was fatally shot at close range almost a year ago outside a popular restaurant in Durban’s Florida Road. Tragically, his friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, also lost his life in the same incident.
In an interview on the Within with Hazel podcast, hosted by Hazel Mahazard, Tony Forbes revealed that he considers his son’s murder to be a targeted assassination.
While he couldn’t divulge specific details regarding the ongoing investigation, he emphasised that the crime was far from random.
Tony described how the assailant deliberately approached the group, singled out his son, and shot him in the head. Another shooter then ensured the completion of the “job” by firing a shot that proved fatal for Motsoane.
Tony Forbes strongly believes that AKA’s killers had access to significant resources, suggesting a well-funded operation. While progress has been made in the investigation, he acknowledged that it still needs time to run its course.
However, he expressed confidence in the South African Police Service investigators assigned to the case and revealed that two individuals are currently in custody, as previously disclosed by Police Minister Bheki Cele.
AKA’s father shared how deeply his son loved Durban and embraced its Zulu culture from an early age. As the investigation progresses and the motive behind the murder becomes clearer, Tony expresses his desire to be present in the courtroom to understand why his son was targeted.
The loss of AKA, a prominent figure in the music industry, has left a void not only in his family’s life but also in the hearts of his fans and the community at large. While the investigation continues, the hope for justice remains steadfast.
