According to IPID spokesperson Phaladi Shuping, the officers allegedly took the man to the Pop building where they assaulted him.
It is reported that one of the officers fired a shot that resulted in the man’s death. The officers then left the unconscious man and reported off duty. The man was later discovered by police officers from another shift, who reported his death in custody.
The seriousness of the charges against the officers has led to their arrest. They are scheduled to appear at the Cradock Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 19 January, for a formal bail application.
The arrest of these officers highlights the importance of holding law enforcement accountable for their actions. The IPID plays a crucial role in investigating cases of police misconduct, ensuring that justice is served and maintaining public trust in the police force.

It is imperative that incidents like these are thoroughly investigated and that those responsible are held accountable. The arrest of these officers is a step towards ensuring justice for the victim and sending a message that such behaviour will not be tolerated within the police force.
The outcome of this case will be closely watched as it has the potential to impact public perception of the police and their ability to maintain law and order. The IPID’s investigation and subsequent legal proceedings will determine the fate of these officers and serve as a reminder of the importance of upholding the law, even for those entrusted with enforcing it.
