Former midfielder Linda “Mercedes Benz” Buthelezi has explained why Mamelodi Sundowns should release star player Gaston Sirino.
The Uruguayan’s absence in the defending champions’ first eleven matches has been a talking point among supporters.
Additionally, the signing of winger Bradley Ralani has raised eyebrows in adding competition for places.
“With Gaston, you must remember he’s been always looking to leave, and he’s Pitso’s player,” Buthelezi tells KickOff.
“Remember him wearing Al Ahly’s shirt when Sundowns faced the Egyptians, disrespecting Sundowns.
“So when Rulani and Mnqithi took over, attitude developed among the whole team, that made him realise he is not welcome anymore.
“So, unfortunately, he is not in the three coaches plan, and I don’t think he is welcomed by the players because his attitude affected the whole team.
“He put on Al Ahly’s shirt so what does that tell you? You are destroying people on the psychological side.
“So he is possibly no longer focused, and they must look to release him.
“It’s difficult for a player to bounce back if he is not on good terms with the other players. At a stage, I experienced something similar at Sundowns during Ted Dumitru’s era.
“With the likes of Kenny Niemach and Augustine Makalakalane, I was no longer happy, so there’s no need to stay.
“So this boy’s attitude is not that good anymore, he feels he is not welcome anymore.
“The coaches know they will mess up the team if they select someone the other players no longer like.
“So in this case Sundowns must just allow him to leave, he’s not bringing a good spirit to Sundowns.”
