EFF leader Julius Malema has challenged the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa. Speaking during the Economic Freedom Fighter rally over the weekend, the Red Beret boss put forward his views on the situation.
The EFF leader openly questioned the legitimacy of the threat posed by the pandemic in South Africa. Pointing out that even journalists were failing to wear face masks, Malema made his disdain over continued restrictions quite clear. Malema claims that the pandemic is being used as a tool by President Cyril Ramaphosa to remain in power.
“The ANC is dead Ramaphosa is trying, even now but hay shame. He uses Covid-19 to cling onto power but people of KZN will teach him a lesson.” Julius Malema
In response to the large crowd that gathered to witness the rally, the EFF has received backlash over a lack of COVID-19 compliance.
Interestingly, Malema mentioned the ANC’s own birthday celebrations which are known to attract large crowds.
“Ramaphosa says he wants 2000 people. It’s because he wants only the elite. We in the EFF are here freely with you because we are not scared of our people.”
Furthermore, Malema insists that South African stadiums must be reopened. The EFF leader says that the entertainment industry is a critical source of job opportunities.
“Ramaphosa must open stadiums. We want our people to be entertained again. We are asking for Stadiums to open because entertainment can create a lot of jobs because of this nonsensical government.”
In line with this, Malema has also questioned why stadiums are open for political rallies but not sporting events. The EFF leader called on PSL to challenge the COVID-19 restrictions governing the industry.
“PSL must not seek to be liked. It must challenge for the opening of the stadiums. Political parties have been filling Stadiums but stadiums are not open for entertainment.”
