Mamelodi Sundowns suffered 1-0 defeat to Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe on Saturday afternoon.
Glody Likonza’s header gave the home side their first win in group A.
Sundowns, playing on an artificial surface, dominated the match but failed to find the goal they deserved to force a draw. Rulani Mokwena’s side hit the woodwork three times but left DRC with nothing as Mazembe registered their first win.
Downs suffered a defeat in the Champions League for the first time since 2022.
Sundowns beaten in Lubumbashi
The Pretoria team came into the match without 10 players.

Sundowns will play Pyramid of Egypt next weekend looking to bounce back from defeat. Before that, they face AmaZulu on Wednesday evening in a DStv Premiership clash.
A win for Sundowns will extent their lead at the top by five points with four games in hand.
