In a shocking and tragic incident that unfolded at Total Garage, situated at the intersection of Rev Namane and Flint Mazibuko Streets in Hospital View, Tembisa, a group of approximately twenty heavily armed suspects, including two women, orchestrated a daring attack. The assailants, utilizing four vehicles, targeted an ATM and dropsafe, setting off a powerful explosion that immediately drew the attention of a passing Tembisa police patrol.
The situation took a grave turn when, undeterred by law enforcement, the suspects opened fire on the patrol vehicle. In the exchange of gunfire, the driver sustained a gunshot wound to the right leg, leading to a tactical retreat. Shortly thereafter, a patrol vehicle from Ivory Park SAPS rushed to the scene, only to face a hail of bullets from the assailants, resulting in a further withdrawal.
Tragically, a courageous police officer from Ivory Park lost his life in the line of duty, succumbing to fatal wounds. The gravity of the incident intensified when it was revealed that the deceased officer’s firearm was stolen during the violent encounter, compounding the severity of the crime committed at Total Garage in Tembisa.
The shocking attack not only underscores the audacity of the criminals involved but also highlights the inherent dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
