A heartbreaking turn of events, a member of the South African Police Service (SAPS) lost their life and another sustained injuries during a shootout with approximately 20 assailants responding to an ATM bombing at a Total Garage in Tembisa Hospital View.
Reports indicate that SAPS officers in Tembisa were on the scene addressing the ATM bombing when the assailants opened fire, resulting in a tragic exchange of gunfire. One officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg but, despite the injuries, managed to call for backup as the assailants continued their assault.
Upon the arrival of a patrol vehicle from Ivory Park SAPS, an obstruction caused by a Ram courier Quatum vehicle complicated the situation. Officers disembarked and engaged in a retaliatory exchange of fire with the assailants. Regrettably, amidst the chaos, one officer succumbed to gunshot wounds, paying the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
