Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson says there are no questions about the quality of the players at the club.
Chiefs have lost six of their opening 12 games in the DStv Premiership after their 1-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
With their poor start, they lay eighth in the table, 10 points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who have played four games fewer.
Added to that, they were knocked out of the Carling Knockout and failed to end their eight-year trophy drought in the MTN8 too.
“Look I think we have enough quality in the team, I just think they have not been given enough opportunities as individuals and I think the way we assess them, or the way we analyse them as part of the Chiefs family,” Johnson said when asked by iDiski Times whether he’s working with a good squad that is underperforming or whether the squad is not good enough.
“I think that needs to be a little better between myself and my coaching staff, because then we can give them more, they can be more positive towards themselves – that is where we’d like to get them, I don’t think you come to Chiefs because you’re average.
“If you did come to Chiefs as an average player, then we will make you a better player, I think we need to get in their skin right now and there are good players, we just need to get the timing right as to how they use the moments when they’re in front of goal.
“How they use the moments in defensive mode and what passes they use to make the team go forward.”
Chiefs face Swallows next on 26 November after the FIFA International break at Dobsonville Stadium.
