Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal leader John Steenhuisen has urged delegates at the party’s Western Cape elective congress to prioritize the 2024 national and provincial elections.
The race for provincial leader is between the incumbent, Tertuis Simmers, and former leader Bonginkosi Madikizela.
Geordin Hill-Lewis is expected to be appointed as the deputy leader.
Jaco Londt is anticipated to be re-elected uncontested as the DA provincial chairperson.
Following the announcement of the election results, Steenhuisen emphasized the importance of shifting focus to campaigning for next year’s polls.
“We have a lot to showcase and a lot more work to do. The upcoming election is crucial, and we have a lot at stake. After nearly 15 years of uninterrupted DA government, there is no doubt that the Western Cape is the best-run province in South Africa,” said Steenhuisen.
