The sudden departure of Vusumuzi Vilakazi has caused turmoil in Chippa United, affecting both the club’s DStv Diski Challenge and senior teams. This has left their DDC side without a coach ahead of their upcoming match against Moroka Swallows.
Vilakazi joined Chilli Boys two months ago after leaving Lamontville Golden Arrows.
Initially introduced as the Technical Director, Vilakazi actually served more as an assistant coach to head coach Morgan Mammila.
However, just 48 hours after the 2-1 midweek defeat to Cape Town City at DHL Stadium, Vilakazi resigned, leaving United with a lot to consider ahead of their weekend clash against Stellenbosch FC.
A reliable source has indicated that there will be changes in the Chilli Boys’ technical teams.
Walter Zungu, who was the DDC head coach, had to cancel his trip to Johannesburg, where the DDC team were scheduled to face Swallows DDC on Saturday morning.
According to the source, Zungu was instructed on Thursday morning to join the first team, as he was about to leave for Johannesburg. Mammila will continue as the head coach and Zungu will be the assistant coach.
This left the Chilli Boys’ DDC technical team with only Mthunzi Ngcingane, who is the assistant and goalkeeper coach, and it is yet to be confirmed who will take charge of the DDC team on Saturday morning.
Additional information from the source suggests that Kurt Lenjties, currently with Chippa United feeder team Peacemakers in the ABC Motsepe League, may return to the club as the DDC head coach, with Zungu remaining with the senior team.
Another potential candidate is Siyabulela Gwambi, who previously served as the club’s assistant coach for over five years. The club is expected to hold a meeting after their match against Stellies to address the technical team changes.
