Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has criticized Njabulo Blom, saying the midfielder does not have the right attitude
The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder has been left out of the 23-man Bafana Bafana squad that will face Benin and Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Blom is part of the Bafana squad that will face CAN 2024 hosts the Eswatini and Ivory Coast in an international friendly last month.
These two matches are part of South Africa’s preparations for the next AFCON which will take place in Ivory Coast in January next year.
Broos announced their World Cup qualifying squad on Friday and one notable absence was St Louis City SC star Blom.
The 23-year-old workaholic was a member of the preliminary team but failed the final part.
Blom was signed by St Louis in December 2022 from the Chiefs.
“You know Njabulo Blom isn’t here right now,” Bross said.
“He sent a text message on Monday saying he had a shoulder injury and couldn’t come to camp.
“We requested the medical report and we have not received it yet.
We got the text three days later that he could play.
I don’t think joining the national team is the right attitude and mindset.
“I’m so sorry, this isn’t the first time
I think this is not the right attitude
The players, when you hear them talk, you hear about the desire to play for the national team, you have to think about what that attitude is and so I didn’t pick him,” Broos added.
It remains to be seen whether Blom will be considered for future orders from Broos
Meanwhile, the Belgian mentor handed Bradley Cross, Jayden Adams and Oswin Appollis their first Bafana Bafana call-ups
Cross and Adams ply their trade with Golden Arrows and Stellenbosch FC while Appollis is owned by Polokwane City
Bafana Bafana will face Benin on November 18 at home before traveling to face Rwanda on November 21.
