North West Premier Bushy Maape is set to return to office next week following his sick leave in June due to minor orthopedic surgery.
During his absence, the MEC for Local government Nono Maloyi served as the Acting Premier.
Sello Tatai, spokesperson for the office of the Premier, confirmed that Maape has been given the all-clear to resume his duties.
“Premier Maape has indicated that he has recovered and is ready to resume his duties from next week Monday. Details of his upcoming schedule and engagements will be communicated in due course,” Tatai stated.
“Acting Premier Nono Maloyi wishes to express her gratitude to colleagues, the executive counsel, and all stakeholders for their support and well wishes during Premier Maape’s recovery,” Tatai added.
In August, the African National Congress Youth League in the North West Province called for Maape’s early retirement, citing the need for the premier’s office to function effectively in order to deliver services to the province’s residents.
