Kaizer Chiefs have been involved in numerous significant coaching decisions over the past eight years, but one of them did not make sense to Gavin Hunt.

While it provided an opportunity for the 59-year-old coach to join the Glamour Boys, the decision by Chiefs to sack Ernst Middendorp in September 2020 puzzled the four-time DStv Premiership champion.

According to Hunt, it didn’t make sense to release a coach who had lost the league title in the last 15 minutes of the season.
“When I went in there, they had just come second by 15 minutes,” Hunt said to Onside, as shared by @SirTshemedi via X.

“So I was quite surprised that Ernst got the bullet…
“Chiefs phoned me after they had fired Ernst, which I thought was unbelievable… coming second like that. And I went in there…” Hunt added before explaining how the club went on to greatly disappoint him.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi will return to action this weekend after a two-week break.
Molefi Ntseki’s Chiefs side will host Durban giants AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium on Saturday at 18:00 in the Carling Knockout last 16.
