South Africans have expressed gratitude to their ancestors, including Nelson Mandela, for the Springboks’ victory over England in the Rugby World Cup semi-final on Saturday night.
The Boks will face New Zealand’s All Blacks in the final next weekend.
MZANSI THANKS MANDELA FOR SPRINGBOKS WIN
On Twitter and other platforms, memes have circulated, depicting the match between SA and England as a battle between the ancestors, namely Nelson Mandela and Queen Elizabeth.
Until the final moments, South Africans were on the edge of their seats as England took the lead on the scoreboard.
However, the game took a dramatic turn as SA turned the tables and won 16-15.
Many attributed the miraculous win to the “ancestors,” honoring those who have passed away. Nelson Mandela, known as Nelly M by tweeps, received a special shout-out from South Africans.
“Thank you Nelly M,” posted one tweep. Another added, “We are forever grateful to you for being such a powerful ancestor.”
NEW ZEALAND UP NEXT

Sending a foreboding message to their opponents, the All Blacks’ Twitter account posted a picture of both teams with the caption, “We meet again,” accompanying the iconic image.
