While awaiting the possible creation of a swimming club in the area, a section of the Bordeaux apnea club Only One Breath is now present at the Hippocampe aquatic center in Saint-André-de-Cubzac.
This Wednesday, October 18, an agreement was signed between Grégory Andrieu, president of the association, Nicolas de Beaulieu, director of Hippocampe, and Valérie Guinaudie, president of the Community of Communes of Grand Cubzaguais.
The community of municipalities had in fact reserved some slots at the aquatic center, intended for sports associations. However, the freediving club, several members of which live in Haute Gironde, needed an additional location for its activities which are in full development.
“We created Only One Breath in 2022 in Bordeaux, following a former club,” explains Grégory Andrieu. And we are around twenty members, including six who live near Saint-André. We are very happy to have this opportunity to practice at the Hippocampe. We will be present on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday evenings, a total of four and a half hours per week. »
Levels like judo
The club welcomes practitioners who know how to swim and are over 16 years old, with different disciplines of static or moving apnea and several levels, from beginner to experienced. “A bit like changing belts in judo, you can go from level 1 to level 4 over the years. We practice in a pool but also, for some, in the Mediterranean, from a boat. »
“The aquatic center was designed primarily for teaching swimming to schoolchildren,” concludes Valérie Guinaudie, “but also for the leisure and sporting activities of residents, and we are happy to welcome this first sports club. There are still slots available for other clubs. »
