Kaizer Chiefs have agreed terms with Stellenbosch FC for midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa for a sensational move two days before the transfer window shuts.
The South Africa international was left out of the Stellenbosch starting eleven on Tuesday evening after allegedly informing the club of his desire to leave before Friday.
With Chiefs publically expressing their desire for the player, the final week of the window was always going to be a nervy one for Stellies and now a bid believed to be in the region of R6-million is said to have been accepted as ‘Ox’ seeks a new challenge.
Orlando Pirates were also keen on the midfield hardman, who was also subject of interest from AmaZulu, but with Chiefs already in advanced negotiations, their late approach of a lower offer was not enough to tempt the 29-year-old to Mayfair.
45min understands ‘Ox’ will be flying out to Johannesburg within the coming hours to finalise a three-year deal with an option to extend.
Mthethwa is said to be relishing the opportunity for the Chiefs move, as the club showed the desire to secure the deal before the deadline and issued assurances of a key role alongside the likes of Edson Castillo and Yusuf Maart in the first eleven.
Stellenbosch are now monitoring 20-year-old Milford midfielder Mthetheleli Mthiyane as the long-term replacement for the defensive midfielder.
Sources indicated that they are aiming to secure him and leave him on loan at the Motspe Foundation Championship side for the remainder of the season.
