Keanin Ayer has had an exciting journey in his career.
Born in Eldorado Park, Ayer left his home as an 11-year-old boy who dreamed of becoming a professional footballer one day.
The 22-year-old was scouted by the Right to Dream academy while playing in a local tournament in Eldorado, and he has never looked back since leaving his native country, family and friends to chase his dream.
He joined the Accra-based academy in 2011 and stayed until June 2018, when he was scouted by Swedish side Varbergs BoIs while playing in the annual Gothia Cup, which was hosted in the Scandinavian country.
In three and a half seasons in Sweden, the midfielder made over 80 appearances in all competitions – including playing 29 games as the club gained promotion to the Allsvenskan in the 2019 campaign.
After succeeding in Sweden, he joined Norwegian top-flight side Sandefjord where he has already established himself as a regular in coach Hans Erik Odegaard’s starting line-up.
Although his five-year stay in Ghana gave him local residency, Ayer has expressed his desire to one day captain the South African national team in the near future.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Â
