Emergency services are currently on the scene where a light aircraft has just crashed near the Lanseria Airport.
According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, paramedics responded just after 10:00 on Friday.
“Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a light aircraft crash near Lanseria Airport just after 10:00 on Friday.
“On arrival on the scene, the wreckage of small aircraft was found in a field,” Van Reenen said.
He said the pilot and only occupant were found on the scene and treated for moderate injuries.
“The Aviation authorities will conduct the necessary investigations.”
Meanwhile, last year in December, a pilot was killed in a light aircraft accident on Saturday in a crash in Syferfontein in Westonaria on the West Rand.
According to Netcare911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst, paramedics responded to the accident at around 12:08 on Saturday afternoon.
He said reports indicated that a light aircraft had impacted the ground close to a nearby airfield.
“The only occupant on board, an adult male, showed no signs of life and was sadly declared deceased on the scene,” Herbst said.
He furthermore said the circumstances leading up to the incident are not known, however all relevant authorities were on scene.
